Sibanye-Stillwater has officially confirmed that the tragic incident that took place at their Lesedi Residence at their Kloof operations on Friday is investigated by the South African Police Service (SAPS).
“Sibanye-Stillwater is deeply shocked by the tragic incident which occurred between two of our employees outside of our Lesedi Residence at our Kloof operations yesterday.
“Our immediate concern is for the families of the employees and the people who witnessed this tragic event,” said in a statement.
The miner has promised to provide psychological support to the families and impacted employees.
This comes after a mine worker allegedly murdered his colleague while other workers were watching at Sibanye-Stillwater. It is alleged that he beheaded and cut open the abdomen of one of his colleagues on Friday, 10 November.
“The victim had gone into the medical aid offices at the shaft, and as he walked out toward his vehicle in the parking lot to get his clock card, the suspect allegedly attacked him.
“He first stabbed the victim in his side, and the next thing we saw he was cutting off the victim’s head.”
The man then allegedly kicked the suspect’s head away from his body.
“He then proceeded to cut open the abdomen of the victim and ate something from the man’s gut. When all these shocking things were done, the man took out his cellphone, sat next to the victim’s body and took selfies.”
