South African Weather Service warns of cold weather conditions

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a warning for adverse weather conditions expected to impact KwaZulu-Natal from Friday through the weekend. Forecaster Puseletso Mofokeng highlighted that the western and central regions of the province are at risk of extreme thunderstorms accompanied by excessive lightning, hail, and strong winds.

Affected Areas

The following areas are anticipated to experience severe weather:
• Durban: Residents should prepare for potential thunderstorms and high winds.
• Margate and Port Shepstone: Coastal towns may face heavy rainfall and gusty conditions.
• Newcastle and Bergville: Inland regions could see significant storm activity.
• Pietermaritzburg and Howick: Central areas are also under threat of severe weather.

Weather Forecast
• Friday, November 22: Humid with times of clouds and sun, high temperatures around 31°C, and low temperatures near 23°C.
• Saturday, November 23: Breezy in the morning; otherwise, mostly cloudy and humid, with highs around 27°C and lows near 21°C.
• Sunday, November 24: Humid with sun and areas of low clouds, highs around 27°C, and lows near 23°C.

Safety Precautions

Residents are advised to take the following precautions:
• Secure Outdoor Items: Ensure that loose objects are fastened to prevent them from becoming projectiles in strong winds.
• Stay Indoors: During thunderstorms, remain indoors and avoid using electrical appliances.
• Avoid Flooded Areas: Do not attempt to cross flooded roads or bridges.
• Stay Informed: Monitor local news and weather updates for the latest information.
