The Senekal Police has apprehended a 30-year-old man in connection with a shocking incident that unfolded recently. Allegedly, after a heated argument at a local tavern, this individual took an unthinkable step: setting fire to his ex-girlfriend’s shack.
The incident, which took place on Saturday, 08 July 2023, has once again highlighted the grave issue of domestic violence in our society.
According to reports, the 33-year-old woman had left her shack in the Tambo section of Matwabeng to visit a local tavern. It was there that she reportedly had a confrontation with her ex-boyfriend, who verbally threatened her with physical harm. Little did she know that this altercation would take such a dangerous turn.
In the early hours of Sunday, 09 July 2023, the woman received a call from her ex-boyfriend, alerting her to the fact that her shack was engulfed in flames. Fortunately, she was not present at the time, having sought refuge at her sister’s house.
The swift action taken by the Senekal Police led to the arrest of the suspect. He now faces the serious charge of arson, and is scheduled to appear before the Senekal Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 10 July 2023.
