Sekhukhune United’s Shaune Mogaila’s Culpable Homicide Case Postponed to May 2025

Sekhukhune United’s Shaune Mogaila

Sekhukhune United footballer Shaune Mogaila appeared in the Tembisa Magistrates’ Court on 4 February 2025, facing charges of culpable homicide, reckless and negligent driving, and failure to render assistance during an accident. The case has been postponed to 19 May 2025 due to outstanding reports, including the J88 medical report.

The charges stem from an incident in October 2024, when Mogaila’s vehicle collided with another car in Tembisa, resulting in the death of a nine-year-old child and serious injuries to another individual. Mogaila allegedly fled the scene, and alcohol and cannabis were reportedly found in his vehicle. He later surrendered to authorities and was released on R20,000 bail.

During the court proceedings, State prosecutor Advocate Xolani Khumalo requested the postponement to obtain the outstanding documents necessary for the case.

Mogaila, 29, has been a prominent figure in South African football, having played for clubs such as Highlands Park, TS Galaxy, and Royal AM before joining Sekhukhune United. He has also represented the national team, Bafana Bafana, earning five caps and scoring one goal during the 2023 COSAFA Cup.

The postponement allows time for the completion of the necessary reports, which are crucial for the progression of the case. Mogaila is expected to reappear in court on 19 May 2025.
