Bloemfontein, South Africa – In a thrilling Betway Premiership match at the Dr. Petrus Molemela Stadium on Wednesday night, Sekhukhune United secured a 2-1 victory over Marumo Gallants, thanks to a stoppage-time goal from substitute Chibuike Ohizu. The win propels Sekhukhune United up the league standings, while Marumo Gallants continue to struggle in their campaign.
Match Delayed Due to Inclement Weather
The game faced a 45-minute delay as heavy rainfall rendered the pitch unplayable, testing the patience and focus of both teams. Once conditions improved, the match commenced with both sides eager to claim vital points.
First Half: Gallants Dominate but Fail to Capitalize
Marumo Gallants started the match assertively, creating several scoring opportunities in the opening minutes. Sekhukhune United made strategic substitutions at the start of the second half, introducing Sipho Mbule, Chibuike Ohizu, and Vusimuzi Mncube to inject fresh energy into their play. This tactical move paid off in the 49th minute when Linda Mntambo capitalized on a set-piece, heading the ball home to give Sekhukhune the lead.
Marumo Gallants responded with determination and found an equalizer in the 66th minute. Second-half substitute Sede Dion made an immediate impact, heading in a cross from close range to level the score. The match seemed destined for a draw as both teams battled for control in the remaining minutes.
