Bloemfontein – The 57-year-old security guard is appearing in Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court for allegedly killing a 14-year-old school pupil, Jevano Liam Siegal during the Mangaung protest and planned shutdown.

The South African Police Services provincial spokesperson, Brigadier Motantsi Makhele has confirmed that the 57-year-old security guard is indeed appearing in Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court today, Wednesday 18 May on the charge of murder.

“The security guard who was alone at the time, fired a shot in a quest to scare the mob but unfortunately hit a 15 years old. The deceased died at the scene. The security guard was arrested and will appear in Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on the charge of murder,” said Brigadier Makhele.

A brother to Siegal who goes to the Heide Primary School in Heidedal, Rashid Siegal says that he was informed by some of the community members that his brother has been shot and unfortunately he couldn’t help him to survive.

“The people who were coming to me…to tell me what’s happening…my brother has been shot. Then I just ran to him and catch him..,” said a brother to Siegal, Rashid Siegal.
