By Thys Khiba – Two drug dealers, Augustine Chekezile Ugwu and Juliet Chioma Nwachukwo aged 44 pleaded guilty and sentenced for dealing with drugs and illegal immigration when they appeared before the Sasolburg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 5 October.
“On 17 July 2020, the information was received by the police about the suspects who were dealing with drugs at a house in Kalahari Villas, Vaalpark,” said Hawks provincial spokesperson Captain Christopher Singo.
Singo confirmed a house in Kalahari Villas, Vaalpark was searched by members of Sasolburg K9 and the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation team all based in Sasolburg.
Police officers managed to arrest the two during the search operation executed by the Hawks and K9 Sasolburg police officers.
“During the search, police discovered drugs and chemicals with the estimated value of R129 000. All drugs that were found were seized including two vehicles, a BMW and a Hyundai.”
The court sentenced Ugwu to 10 years imprisonment of which five years is suspended for five years.
He was also sentenced to two years imprisonment for illegal immigration.
Meanwhile Nwachukwo was given three years imprisonment for fraud of passport and asylum papers and two years for illegal immigration.
“Ugwu will serve seven years direct imprisonment whereas Nwachukwo will serve five years direct imprisonment.”
