Sasol employee taken to medical station amid ammonia leak

By Thys Khiba – South African Chemicals and energy company Sasol Limited confirmed one personnel member who was affected by ammonia leak at the Afrox Plant on the Sasol One Site in Sasolburg has been transported to the medical station on Wednesday, 22 March.

This comes after Sasol indicated at approximately 07:20 on Wednesday 22 March, a strong ammonia smell was detected, upon investigation, technicians on the site discovered an ammonia leak at their Afrox Plant in Sasolburg.

Sasol Limited spokesperson Alex Anderson indicated that Sasol’s emergency protocol has been activated and all personnel evacuated from the area.

Further information on the ammonia leak is not available at this stage, however, every effort is being made to confirm the details as quickly as possible.

Sasol confirmed that their priority is to ensure the safety of their staff members and isolating the incident as quickly as possible.
