Sasol Appoints Simon Baloyi as New CEO, Executive Director, and President

Simon Baloyi

Sasol, a leading international integrated chemicals and energy company, has recently announced the appointment of Simon Baloyi as the company’s new CEO, Executive Director, and President, effective from April of next year.

This decision comes as part of Sasol’s ongoing efforts to ensure effective leadership and a smooth transition of key roles within the organization.

Baloyi will be taking over the position from Fleetwood Grobler, who will assume the role of executive advisor until December 31st of the following year. This strategic move has been carefully planned to ensure a seamless handover process and to leverage Grobler’s expertise during this crucial period.

In the search for Grobler’s successor, Sasol’s Board conducted a comprehensive and diligent recruitment program that considered both internal and external candidates. The aim was to identify the most suitable leader who could serve the company’s interests most effectively in the future.

Simon Baloyi, who currently serves as the Executive Vice President of Energy Operations and Technology at Sasol, emerged as the ideal candidate due to his proven technical and operational skills. Baloyi holds Master’s degrees in Engineering Management and Chemical Engineering, further demonstrating his expertise in these areas. His tenure at Sasol, which began in 2002, has been marked by progressively advancing through a range of management positions, making him well-prepared to take up this new challenge.

Expressing his enthusiasm, Baloyi stated, “I am looking forward to working with the Board, management, the Sasol family, and all our stakeholders”. With his strong leadership qualities, extensive experience within the company, and deep industry knowledge, Baloyi is well-positioned to steer Sasol towards achieving its strategic goals.
