Heidedal – Free State South African Police Service (SAPS) Provincial Spokesperson Brigadier Motantsi Makhele confirmed the arrest of a Warrant Officer based at Vispol, Heidedal for corruption on Wednesday.
According to Brigadier Makhele, the incident happened after a member of the public visited the CSC at Heidedal SAPS to enquire about his father who is allegedly missing.
“The member (officer) allegedly accused the complaint of being a Lesotho foreign citizen, for he did not have any identification on him.
He then took his two cell phones and 2 sets of keys from and told him if he brings back R500.00, he will get back his property,” said Brigadier Makhele.
Makhele said the complaint went to a friend to borrow the money, and then contacted the police officer.

“A quicker operation was launched to attend to this matter. The two complaints then went back to the CSC and handed over the R500 arranged through this operation.”
Therefore the property was handed back to the complaint and they left.
“Provincial Anti-Corruption unit assisted by Parkweg Tracking arrested the member and the R500 trap money was found in his possession.”
The arrested officer is expected to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate Court on Friday, 06 August 2021.
