SANDF Acting CFO Edem Abotsi

The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) has swiftly responded to accusations by social media users regarding the citizenship and current employment status of its Acting Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Edem Abotsi.

The force has clarified that Abotsi has been a legal resident of South Africa since 1991 and became a naturalized citizen in 1999, after nine years of living in the country.

According to the department, Abotsi has been a valuable member of the SANDF since 2014, serving as both Chief Compliance Officer and Chief Director of Financial Services.

Simphiwe Dlamini, the spokesperson for SANDF, explained that Abotsi assumed the Acting CFO position following the departure of the previous CFO.

Dlamini further emphasized that Abotsi has the necessary qualifications as an auditor and accountant, having worked at the Office of the Auditor General for 14 years and held the position of Senior Audit Manager before leaving.

Dlamini vehemently denounced the accusations against Abotsi and called them malicious and unjust. He stressed that associating Abotsi, a law-abiding citizen, with illegal nationals involved in criminal activities is baseless and unfair.

Dlamini reaffirmed that Abotsi has complied with all the legal requirements and regulations governing foreigners in South Africa. Abotsi has respected and adhered to the laws of the Republic of South Africa in his pursuit of living, working, and ultimately becoming a citizen of the country.
