SAAF Soldier Dies in Accident Near Potchefstroom

On Wednesday, a member of the South African National Air Force (SAAF) died in a vehicle accident on the R54 Road heading towards Potchefstroom.

The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) stated that two South African Air Force (SAAF) members were on their way to Potchefstroom when the car in which they were travelling collided with a truck.

SANDF Spokesperson, Brigadier General Andries Mokoena Mahapa, says the two were tasked to deliver equipment to be used during the youth week celebration closing parade fly-past on Friday, 23 June 2023 in Potchefstroom.

“Sadly, one (1) member lost his life and the second member was rushed to the nearest hospital where he is receiving medical attention.”

“The Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Honourable Thandi Modise, the Deputy Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Mr Thabang Makwetla, the acting Secretary for Defence, Ms Thobekile Gamede and the Chief of the SANDF, General Rudzani Maphwanya express their heartfelt condolences to the family members, friends and colleagues of the deceased member and wish the injured member a comprehensive medical recovery from his injuries.”
