The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) has officially relocated its offices, as well as its Driving Licence Testing Centre (DLTC), to new premises at Centurion Gate in an effort to streamline services and better meet client needs. In a statement issued by the corporation, it was highlighted that this move is designed to consolidate multiple services under one roof, ensuring that clients no longer need to visit multiple locations for their driving licence and related requirements.

The former RTMC DLTC, which was located at Eco Park, has closed its doors and ceased operations as of Monday, 2 September 2024. Clients can now access all the necessary services at the new address, located at Centurion Gate Business Park, Block A to D, 146 Akkerboom Street, Zwartkop, Centurion. This centralisation of services is expected to enhance efficiency and customer satisfaction.

A Seamless Transition for Clients

In its official communication, the RTMC assured the public that the relocation process was carefully planned to avoid any disruptions in service. “Clients are assured that everything possible will be done to ensure that there will be no interruption in service during this relocation, and they are encouraged to collect their licences without delay,” the RTMC said. This proactive approach has been welcomed by the public, as driving licence services are critical to many South Africans who rely on their licences for work, travel, and daily activities.

At the new Centurion Gate premises, clients will be able to access a range of services, including driving licence renewals, confirmations, and card collections. This new, larger space is expected to reduce waiting times and improve the overall client experience. The RTMC is committed to maintaining its high standards of service during the transition and in the long term.

What Clients Need to Bring for Licence Renewals

To ensure a smooth process for those looking to renew their driving licence cards, the RTMC has outlined the required documents that clients need to bring to the new centre:

•   A valid Identity Document (ID) or a valid South African passport;
•   The current driving licence card;
•   Proof of residential address.

For clients living in informal settlements, it is necessary to provide a letter from a ward councillor confirming the residential address. The letter must include an official date and stamp.

The relocation of the RTMC is a significant step towards improving service delivery, as the centralised services at Centurion Gate will make it easier for clients to access the help they need without navigating between different offices. The Waterfall Driving Licence Centre, however, will remain in its current location and continue to operate fully.

RTMC’s Commitment to Excellent Service

In addition to the relocation, the RTMC has expressed its gratitude to clients for their ongoing support throughout this process. “The RTMC appreciates its clients’ continuous support and looks forward to continuing to provide excellent service to all current and future clients,” said the corporation.
Cape Town Expands Free Park-and-Ride Service for Springbok vs All Blacks Clash at DHL Stadium

By Sello Masilo

The City of Cape Town is gearing up for a historic rugby showdown as the Springboks, four-time Rugby World Cup champions, face off against their long-time rivals, the All Blacks, on Saturday, 7 September 2024, at the iconic DHL Stadium. With a sold-out crowd expected, the city has announced the rollout of an expanded free park-and-ride shuttle service to accommodate the thousands of fans descending upon the Mother City for this much-anticipated match.

For the first time since their 2022 victory over Wales, the Springboks return to Cape Town, and this is the first time they will take on the All Blacks in the city since 2017. Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis, expressing the city’s excitement, said, “Cape Town is a city united in pride and excitement as we prepare to host our world champion Bokke for this historic clash against our greatest rivals.”

To ensure smooth traffic flow and alleviate congestion, the city has expanded its MyCiTi shuttle service for match spectators, offering free rides from multiple key locations across Cape Town. These shuttle services will be available from Century City, University of Cape Town (UCT), Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC), Thibault Square, and Civic Centre stations.

Expanded Shuttle Service Details

The shuttle service is designed to provide easy and safe transport for the thousands of rugby fans expected to flood the city streets. The first shuttles from all pickup points are scheduled to depart at 12 pm, giving spectators plenty of time to arrive at the stadium ahead of the 5 pm kick-off. Gates at DHL Stadium will open at 12:30 pm, allowing attendees to enjoy the exciting curtain-raiser match between the Springbok Women and the Barbarian Women, set to start at 1:30 pm.

Parking and Shuttle Pick-Up Points

To accommodate spectators driving into the city, the city has made available various free parking bays at key locations:

• 475 parking bays will be opened at the Civic Centre for ticketed fans, accessible from Hertzog Boulevard and Civic Road from 11 am.
• 500 parking bays will be available at Century City Steelbridge E-parking on Century Boulevard, with the parking area monitored by security personnel. However, drivers park at their own risk, and availability will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
• At UCT, fans can park on the Upper Campus and access shuttles from the UCT Shuttle North Stop, conveniently located beside the dam.

The last shuttle to the stadium will depart at 4:45 pm, ensuring that all attendees arrive in time for the main event. Following the game, the last shuttle back to all park-and-ride points will leave the stadium at 9:30 pm, allowing fans to make a smooth journey home after the thrilling match.

Encouraging Public Transport to Reduce Congestion

With the event being sold out, the City of Cape Town anticipates significant congestion on roads leading to the stadium. JP Smith, Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, urged spectators to take advantage of the park-and-ride system. “We would like to encourage spectators to make use of the park-and-ride system to alleviate the pressure on the roads,” he stated, noting that traffic is expected to be heavy on match day.

Smith further cautioned against illegal parking in residential areas near the stadium, stressing that “Illegally parked vehicles will be fined and/or towed away.” The city has made additional arrangements for safety, including deploying security personnel and coordinating efforts with the South African Police Service (SAPS) to ensure that fans enjoy a seamless and safe experience.

E-Hailing Services and Road Closures

For those using ride-hailing services, the city has designated a dedicated e-hailing zone on P13 along Greenpoint Main Road, between York Road and Wigtown Road. This area will make it easier for drivers and passengers to coordinate pick-ups and drop-offs without further exacerbating traffic congestion around the stadium.

Additionally, several road closures will be in place across the city, particularly in the Greenpoint and stadium precincts, to manage traffic and pedestrian flow. Residents and motorists are advised to plan accordingly and allow extra travel time if passing through the affected areas.

A Historic Rugby Showdown

As the countdown begins to the Springbok vs. All Blacks match, Cape Town is ready to showcase its world-class hosting capabilities. The match, part of the Castle Lager Rugby Championship, promises to be a thrilling encounter between two of rugby’s greatest powerhouses. The Springboks, riding high on their 2022 Rugby World Cup win, are eager to face off against New Zealand, a team with whom they share a rich history of fierce competition.

With over 52,000 rugby fans expected to fill the stadium, the atmosphere is set to be electric. Mayor Hill-Lewis summarised the city’s sentiment, saying, “This is a wonderful occasion that a lot of people have been anticipating for some time. Let’s work together to make it a seamless and memorable experience for all.”
