Rhino poachers on the loose after dehorning 2 rhino bulls, injuring 1

STEYNSRUS – A case of Rhino Poaching under the Bioversity Act 10/2004 Section57, carrying out restricted activities involving species listed as threatened Rhino Poaching was registered after two rhino bulls were killed and one injured in Geduldfontein farm,  Steynsrus.

“The farmer alleged that three white rhino bulls were shot and two of them dehorned by unknown poachers between Tuesday, 17 and Wednesday, 18 August 2021”said, Brigadier Motantsi Makhele

“One bull survived though, wounded in the head and was not dehorned.”

“The value of the two killed rhino bulls is R800 000”. 

The police says the suspects are still at large and the search has ensued as investigation continues.

Makhele said anyone who has information that may assist in tracing the suspects should please contact Detective Warrant Officer Henry Greeff of Heilbron Stock Theft and Endangered Species at 082 627 7577 or call Crime Stop at 08600 10111, alternatively send information anonymously via My SAPS App.
