JOHANNESBURG – Rand Water has successfully completed maintenance at the Zwartkopjes pump station, with pumping operations restored to 100% as of Sunday morning.

Johannesburg Water reports that systems supplied by Zwartkopjes are now recovering and building capacity. These systems include Parktown, Berea, Forrest Hill, Naturena, Orlando East, and the Hector Norris Pump Station, which supplies the Johannesburg CBD.

Maintenance at the Eikenhof pump station is ongoing, with completion projected for Monday, 16 December 2024. This work impacts areas such as Soweto, Randburg/Roodepoort, Commando (Brixton, Crosby, and Hursthill), Lenasia, and parts of Johannesburg central, including Eagles Nest, Crown Gardens, Aeroton, and Alan Manor reservoirs.

In response to the disruptions, Johannesburg Water has deployed additional roaming tankers to affected areas, prioritising hospitals, clinics, and old age homes to ensure continuous water supply.

Complete recovery of all impacted systems is expected to take between five and 14 days after full restoration of supply. Residents in low-lying areas will experience quicker recovery than those in high-lying regions. Johannesburg Water’s technical teams are reconfiguring systems to expedite the restoration process and will provide updates on the progress of Rand Water’s maintenance.

The maintenance project aims to enhance system availability, reliability, and efficiency for the long-term benefit of customers.

Residents are advised to remain patient during this period and to use water sparingly to aid in the recovery process. For the latest updates, follow Johannesburg Water’s official channels.
