President Cyril Ramaphosa
CAPE TOWN, – President Cyril Ramaphosa is poised to engage with the youth of South Africa at the Belhar Sports Centre in Cape Town this coming Tuesday. The much-anticipated event is a key moment for reflection and dialogue, as it marks three years since the launch of influential youth development initiatives: the Presidential Employment Stimulus (PES) and the Presidential Youth Employment Intervention (PYEI).
Promising a comprehensive experience, the Presidential Youth Engagement will feature various hubs designed to provide young people with the resources and connections they need to thrive in today’s economy. The Training Hub will offer unique opportunities for attendees to interact with trainers, mentors, and peers who have already reaped the benefits of the government’s interventions.
Amidst stalls and exhibits, the Opportunities Hub will be central to the day’s proceedings, displaying a range of offerings from stakeholders aimed at facilitating the transition from education to employment for South Africa’s young job seekers. Moreover, a Partners Hub will be established to highlight the significant contributions from all collaborators involved in the PYEI.
The event, spearheaded by the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA), is set to be more than just a showcase of successful programs and opportunities; it is positioned as a dynamic platform for proactive dialogue between the youth, programme benefactors, and policy stakeholders.
“The engagement is a testament to our administration’s unwavering commitment to youth development and empowerment. We are here to listen, to understand the challenges faced by our young people and to ensure we continue to provide the necessary support for them to succeed,” stated the Presidency in a statement.
Since their inception, the PES and PYEI have been a boon for youthful job seekers, collectively creating more than 1.8 million job opportunities and providing essential livelihood support, with young individuals being the primary beneficiaries.
This engagement comes at a strategic time, as President Ramaphosa’s sixth administration begins wrapping up its term and gears up for the State of the Nation Address (SONA) in 2024. It is a pivotal juncture for recognizing the collective efforts and results achieved through strong partnerships and the hard work of beneficiaries, and for rallying a call to action for the next phase of the programme.
Organizers have announced that the event will commence at 2pm and are encouraging all interested participants to engage in this unique opportunity for direct dialogue with government representatives and policy makers.
