President Cyril Ramaphosa has hailed the sixth District Development Model (DDM) Presidential Imbizo as a success.

On Friday, President Cyril Ramaphosa will be taking charge of an oversight visit to the Emfuleni Local Municipality in Gauteng. The purpose of this visit is to assess the improvements and challenges in service delivery in the area, as stated by Presidential spokesperson Vincent Magwenya during a media briefing on Thursday.

One of the main issues facing the municipality is the provision of water services. The Department of Water and Sanitation has had to step in to upgrade critical bulk pipelines and pump station infrastructure due to ongoing difficulties. The President’s visit aims to address these concerns and find possible solutions.

The visit to Emfuleni is part of the District Development model, which focuses on improving cooperative governance through integrated inter-governmental planning and budgeting. By embracing this model, President Ramaphosa hopes to fulfill his commitment of leaving no one behind in the development process. This series of Izimbizo showcases his dedication to visiting all provinces and understanding their unique challenges.

During the oversight visit, President Ramaphosa will have the opportunity to see first-hand how a water treatment plant, a waste water treatment plant, and a highway pump station are functioning. This comprehensive approach allows for a deeper understanding of the issues faced by the municipality and enables the President to engage with stakeholders in the area.
