By Thys Khiba – On Sunday, presidency spokesperson Vincent Magwenya confirmed president Cyril Ramaphosa has delivered his submission to the independent panel investigating matters linked to the theft at his Phala Phala farm.
Parliament established the Section 89 panel after opposition party ATM brought a motion to remove Ramaphosa on the grounds of ‘a serious violation of the Constitution or the law and serious misconduct.
Magwenya claimed that Ramaphosa’s submission declares his committed cooperation with due process.
“President Ramaphosa has always made certain that throughout his tenure as President, he abides by oath of office and set an example in his respect for the Constitution, its institutions, due process and the rule of law,” Magwenya said.
Ramaphosa continued to deny any wrongdoing and maintains that he has not violated his oath of office.
“President Ramaphosa categorically denies that he violated this oath in any way, and denies that he is guilty of any of the allegations made against him,” said Magwenya.
This is in connection to the theft of US Dollars from his Phala Phala farm. Ramaphosa is accused of breaking the law by not reporting the incident to the police.
Former president Jacob Zuma told the ANC supporters in EThekwini on Sunday that they should raise questions relating to Phala Phala farm scandal at Nasrec.
Zuma maintains that Ramaphosa must be held accountable over the farm saga.
“If the law finds you with a certain amount of money it throws you in jail why hasn’t the same happened here? Do positions make you bigger than the law?”
“There are a lot of things we must ask. If I was a president, for example, and committed a crime and I don’t get arrested the conference must ask me why.”
