BLOEMFONTEIN | Foreign National Arrested for Possession of Illegal Cigarettes and Counterfeit Goods
A 51-year-old foreign national is set to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on charges of possession of illegal cigarettes and other counterfeit goods. The suspect was apprehended at the East End Business Park in Mckenzie Street following a tip-off received by the Bloemfontein Flying Squad.
Sergeant Sinah Mpakane, the police spokesperson, stated, “On Thursday, 8 February 2024, at about 17:00, members of the Bloemfontein Flying Squad received information about illicit cigarettes at the business park and immediately responded. Upon arrival, they discovered 93 boxes of illicit cigarettes and other counterfeit goods, with an estimated street value of about R1.35 million.”
The suspect was swiftly arrested for possession of illicit cigarettes, and further investigation led to the issuance of a fine for the possession of the counterfeit goods
