Premier Soccer League PSL
The Premier Soccer League (PsL) has decided to postpone the #DStvPrem fixtures that were set for 13 and 14 February 2024, in light of the South African national football team’s extended stay in the host nation following the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
This announcement came after the South African Football Association (Safa) received official communication stating that the Bafana Bafana squad would only make its return to South African soil on Wednesday, 14 February 2024, due to their remarkable performance at AFCON.
The PsL, recognizing the significance of Bafana Bafana’s accomplishment and the logistical requirements of their return, has agreed that the delay is in the best interest of the players and the sport. In a statement released to the public, the PsL has assured that “the rescheduled dates for these matches will be communicated in due course,” ensuring fans and stakeholders are kept informed of any new developments.
Bafana Bafana’s campaign at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations culminated in a thrilling third-place finish at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium on Saturday evening. After a nail-biting penalty shootout, South Africa emerged victorious with a 6-5 win against DR Congo, earning the bronze medal for the first time in 22 years.
The success comes as a much-welcomed boost for South African football, reigniting national pride in the sport. Safa has expressed immense pride in the team’s performance, acknowledging the squad’s hard work and dedication throughout the tournament. Bafana Bafana commenced their campaign quietly with a training camp in Stellenbosch, which set the stage for their success.
“The team has shown exceptional resilience and unity throughout the tournament, and it’s only fitting that we afford them a hero’s welcome upon their return,” a Safa representative said.
