Proteas Final T20

By Phenyo Selinda

The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture has extended congratulations to the Proteas on their stellar performance at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The national cricket team’s commendable journey, albeit with a narrow final loss, has garnered accolades nationwide.

“Keep your heads held high Proteas Men! You have had a great ICC Men’s T20 World Cup campaign and have made the nation proud. See you when you return to Mzansi!” the department posted on X, previously known as Twitter.

This comes after the Proteas faced a close defeat against India, losing by just seven runs in Saturday’s thrilling final.

“Not meant to be for the Proteas in Barbados but a campaign to be proud of,” Cricket South Africa echoed in their post on X.

Under the impressive leadership of captain Aiden Markram, the Proteas secured an undefeated streak throughout the tournament, valiantly battling through challenging matches. Their resilience shone as they narrowly triumphed over Nepal, Netherlands, Bangladesh, and England. Their victory against the West Indies in the Super Eight stage was clinched with just five balls remaining.

Proteas: South Africa’s Heroes on the Field

Despite the setback in the final, the Proteas showcased sheer brilliance and determination. In a statement on Friday, Cricket South Africa highlighted the team’s historic accomplishment, noting, “However, the Proteas knew when to show up and deliver match winning results. They displayed artistic prowess and made history by defeating Afghanistan by nine wickets, securing their place in their first-ever ICC Men’s T20 World Cup final.”
