President Cyril Ramaphosa | Presidential Imbizo

President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to lead a government interaction with the people and stakeholders of the Northern Cape. Today’s gathering, dubbed a District Development Model Presidential Imbizo, will take place within the John Taolo Gaetsewe District Municipality, under the theme “Leave No One Behind.”

Scheduled to commence at 11am at the Batlharos Sports Ground, this 12th Presidential Imbizo aims to create an open platform where community members and stakeholders can freely voice their proposals, concerns, or any dissatisfaction with the conditions in their district or province at large.

The John Taolo Gaetsewe District Municipality, highlighted as rural with local municipalities including Ga-Segonyana, Joe Morolong, and Gamagara, plays a pivotal role in the regional economy, with mining, tourism, manufacturing and agriculture, and forestry being its main economic drivers.

This Imbizo presents an opportunity for the voices of residents, traditional leaders, business formations, organised labour, and faith- and community-based organisations to be heard. It’s designed to streamline the collaborative efforts between the community and government across all stages of planning, implementation, and evaluation, under the ambitious “One District, One Plan” District Development Model.

Earlier this year, a similar engagement took place in Emalahleni, Mpumalanga, where community members addressed their service delivery concerns directly with President Ramaphosa, showcasing the government’s commitment to addressing these issues head-on.

In anticipation of this community engagement, President Ramaphosa is scheduled to meet with the Northern Cape Provincial Executive of the House of Traditional and Khoi-san Leaders, highlighting the importance of maintaining strong and effective communication channels between the government and traditional leadership structures.

As the Northern Cape, and indeed the whole of South Africa, looks towards building a more inclusive and participatory approach to democracy and development, today’s Imbizo stands as a testament to the government’s dedication to listening to its people and actively working towards addressing their needs and concerns.
