President Cyril Ramaphosa | Presidential Imbizo
Emalahleni, Mpumalanga – President Cyril Ramaphosa is scheduled to lead a pivotal interaction with communities and various stakeholders in the Nkangala District Municipality on Thursday, as part of the government’s initiative to promote inclusive development through the District Development Model Presidential Imbizo.

According to a statement from the Presidency released on Tuesday, the 12th Presidential Imbizo is centred on the theme ‘Leave No One Behind’. “The Presidential Imbizo promotes participatory democracy and inclusive development by allowing community members and stakeholders to voice proposals and express any concerns or dissatisfaction they may have about conditions in the district or province,” the Presidency highlighted.
Set to commence at 11 am, the imbizo will be held at the Sy Mthimunye Stadium in Emalahleni and is set to chart a course towards successful implementation of the ‘One District, One Plan’ District Development Model. This model encourages engagement between residents, traditional leaders, business formations, organised labour, as well as faith- and community-based organisations in all stages of planning, implementing and evaluating government initiatives.
Earlier this week, Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister, Thembi Nkadimeng stressed the importance of participation by residents of Mpumalanga in this interactive process. “As a constitutional democracy grounded in meaningful public participation and accountability, continuous engagement with communities is important. Therefore, the imbizo reaffirms the role of communities in shaping their development initiatives,” stated Nkadimeng.
The President’s visit is also an opportunity for government officials to review the advancements made and address the challenges related to enhancing service delivery, a commitment that stems from the President’s previous interactions in the province.
Throughout its conception since March 2022, izimbizo have been integral in empowering communities to engage directly with the President and have a say in policy discussions, while recognizing government efforts to deliver better services to the public.
“Government’s commitment to serving the people and enhancing their well-being necessitates ongoing dialogue and collaboration,” the Presidency acknowledged, emphasizing that such community inputs are essential in informing governmental priorities and accelerating public service delivery.
In addition to building public-government rapport, the DDM Presidential Imbizo aims to heighten understanding and empowerment, thereby strengthening the bond between citizens and their elected officials. Outcomes and feedback from these discussions are key in guiding government decisions and demonstrating the meaningful impact of public contributions.
Before the imbizo, a series of preparatory outreach activities led by Ministers, Members of the Executive Council (MECs), and mayors will take place across the Nkangala District Municipality and the wider Mpumalanga province.
