President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to embark on a visit to KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) on Thursday, 7 November, and Friday, 8 November 2024. This visit aims to honour the legacy of King Shaka Zulu, engage with the Provincial Executive Committee, and interact directly with the residents of eThekwini.

Unveiling of King Shaka Zulu Statue

The President’s itinerary begins at 09h00 on Thursday with the unveiling of a statue dedicated to King Shaka Zulu at King Shaka International Airport in Durban. This event will be graced by His Majesty King Misuzulu kaZwelithini and Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli. The statue serves as a tribute to King Shaka kaSenzangakhona, the founding father of the Zulu nation, renowned for his leadership and military acumen that established one of Southern Africa’s most formidable kingdoms. The monument is envisioned as a symbol of unity, strength, and pride, celebrating King Shaka’s enduring contributions to Zulu history, culture, and identity.

Engagement with the Provincial Executive Committee

Following the unveiling ceremony, President Ramaphosa will convene with Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli and the Provincial Government Executive. Accompanied by pertinent Ministers and Deputy Ministers, this meeting is part of a series of interactions aimed at enhancing intergovernmental coordination and improving service delivery in alignment with the priorities of the 7th Administration. The provincial leadership is expected to present a comprehensive five-year programme addressing national priorities such as inclusive economic growth, poverty reduction, and the establishment of a capable and ethical state. Discussions will also focus on interventions to enhance service delivery at the local government level.

Presidential eThekwini Working Group Meeting

Later in the day, the President will participate in a meeting of the Presidential eThekwini Working Group. Established in February 2024, this intergovernmental collaborative initiative aims to support and expedite efforts by the eThekwini Municipality to improve service delivery, boost business confidence, and reposition eThekwini as a prime destination for investment and tourism. The Working Group includes active participation from all levels of government, the private sector, state-owned enterprises, organised labour, and civil society.

Presidential District Development Model (DDM) Imbizo

On Friday, 8 November, President Ramaphosa, along with members of national, provincial, and local government, will engage directly with citizens and organised civil society formations during a Presidential District Development Model (DDM) Imbizo under the theme “Leave No One Behind.” The Imbizo provides a platform for citizens to voice their concerns and proposals directly to the leadership, who will respond and outline plans for community and economic development in the area.
