President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to meet the residents of Ekurhuleni at the forthcoming Presidential Imbizo. This interactive event is scheduled to take place in Tsakane Township, Gauteng, on the 11th of April 2024, marking a crucial moment for locals to converse directly with the nation’s leader about their concerns and recommendations.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has hailed the sixth District Development Model (DDM) Presidential Imbizo as a success.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has hailed the sixth District Development Model (DDM) Presidential Imbizo as a success.

The Imbizo, which forms an integral part of the government’s District Development Model, aims to foster a hands-on approach, ensuring communal issues are addressed at the highest level. President Ramaphosa will champion this initiative, promoting dialogue and scrutiny in an effort to pave the way for progressive changes within the region.

Not merely a discussion forum, the Imbizo operates as a strategic instrument for government leaders, including the President, to monitor and evaluate the tangible advancements of various government programs and interventions that have been implemented in the area.

Under the theme “Leave No One Behind,” the event echoes the fundamental principles of participatory democracy and inclusive development. It provides a platform where citizens, from grassroots to business owners, can freely contribute their insights and voice their grievances or dissatisfaction with local government services in their district or province.

The “One District, One Plan” framework serves as a cornerstone of the District Development Model. This initiative coordinates the collaboration between citizens, traditional and community leaders, business entities, labour organisations, and religious groups, ensuring that every stakeholder has a role in the decision-making process from planning to implementation and review.

As part of the preparations leading to the Presidential Imbizo, an array of community outreach efforts is to be spearheaded by Government Ministers, Members of the Executive Council (MECs), and the Mayors within the Ekurhuleni municipality. These activities are designed to prime the community, encourage robust participation and gather preliminary feedback in anticipation of President Ramaphosa’s visit.
