As the Matric Class of 2024 prepares to start their National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations on Monday, 21 October 2024, President Cyril Ramaphosa extended his heartfelt best wishes to the learners. In a statement issued by the Presidency, Ramaphosa acknowledged the efforts of students, their families, and teachers, encouraging learners to remain confident and motivated.

“You started out as the Grade 1 Class of 2012 and have succeeded to this point with the help of many people around you,” said the President. He emphasized the importance of community support during this critical phase, urging learners to reach out for help when needed. He reminded the students that these exams are not obstacles but gateways to future success and personal growth. “Be confident in what you know, believe in yourself, and know that you are meant to succeed,” he added.

The NSC examinations are an important milestone for over 75,000 candidates in the Western Cape alone, with 64,375 full-time and 11,272 part-time students registered. Nationally, the Department of Basic Education, led by Minister Siviwe Gwarube, has expressed its readiness to administer the exams. Gwarube noted that the exams will be written across hundreds of centres with over 1,800 invigilators overseeing the process to ensure fairness and integrity. With 123 examination papers to be written across various subjects, the exams will continue until late November .

President Ramaphosa’s message aligns with the Department of Education’s commitment to ensuring that students have all the necessary support to succeed. He further highlighted that the skills and interests of this generation would play a crucial role in advancing South Africa’s future. As students embark on this challenging but rewarding journey, the entire nation stands behind them, offering encouragement and hope for their success.
