[BREAKING] Public Protector advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane confirms that she receives a complaint against President Cyril Ramaphosa. The complaint relates to a burglary on the president's Limpopo farm in 2020. Ramaphosa is reported to the PP for breach of the executive code of ethics.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has responded to Public Protector Advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane’s intention to report back to her office, stating that she lacks the legal authority to do so until the National Assembly completes its part of the process.

Mkhwebane had previously communicated her plan to resume her duties in a letter to the President.

Mkhwebane referred to a Presidential Minute signed by the President on June 9, 2022, which suspended her pending the finalization of the proceedings/inquiry initiated by the National Assembly Committee in accordance with section 194 of the Constitution.

According to Mkhwebane, the specified suspension period has now expired, indicating that she is eligible to return to work.

However, President Ramaphosa contends that no resolution has been taken by the National Assembly, as required by section 194(2) of the Constitution.

Therefore, the process remains incomplete, and Mkhwebane does not have the legal right or entitlement to resume her role until the committee reaches its final decisions.

Ramaphosa addressed Mkhwebane’s letter, stating that her interpretation of the Presidential Minute and his response was incorrect.

He expressed dissatisfaction with the timing of her decision, as she informed him of her intention to return just a day before. The President emphasized that her planned action was unjustified and premature.
