President Ramaphosa Leads South African Delegation to World Economic Forum 2025

President Cyril Ramaphosa departed South Africa on Monday to lead the nation’s delegation at the 55th World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting, taking place from 20 to 24 January 2025 in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland. 

The meeting, convened under the theme “Collaboration in the Intelligent Age,” aims to foster new partnerships and insights to shape a more sustainable and inclusive future amidst rapidly advancing technology. 

South Africa’s Strategic Objectives at WEF

As the first African nation to assume the G20 Presidency, South Africa seeks to leverage this platform to highlight the significance of fostering economic growth while ensuring social inclusion and environmental stewardship. 

President Ramaphosa is scheduled to deliver a special address at the WEF, presenting South Africa’s economic priorities and advancing the country’s G20 Presidency, themed “Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability.” 

Key Focus Areas

1. Inclusive Economic Growth and Industrialisation: South Africa aims to drive a progressive, Africa-centric, and development-oriented agenda that puts the continent’s development at the heart of the global economic agenda.
2. Food Security: Addressing systemic disparities and promoting unity to collaboratively tackle shared global challenges, South Africa will focus on ensuring equitable access to food resources.
3. Artificial Intelligence and Innovation for Sustainable Development: Recognising the crucial role of innovation and technology in driving economic development and addressing societal challenges, South Africa aims to leverage technological advancements to promote inclusive growth and enhance global competitiveness.

Engagements and Delegation

The South African delegation, comprising key government and business leaders, will engage with international stakeholders to strengthen partnerships and advance the country’s economic and social agenda. 

President Ramaphosa will be accompanied by Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Ronald Lamola; Minister of Finance Enoch Godongwana; Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition Parks Tau; Minister of Electricity and Energy Dr. Kgosientsho Ramokgopa; Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Dr. Blade Nzimande; Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies Solly Malatsi; Minister of Fisheries, Forestry and Environment Dion George; Minister of Health Dr. Aaron Motsoaledi; and Minister of Agriculture John Steenhuisen.

The WEF Annual Meeting convenes global leaders to address key global and regional challenges, including responding to geopolitical shocks, stimulating growth to improve living standards, and stewarding a just and inclusive energy transition.
