President Cyril Ramaphosa has extended his congratulations to the government and people of Zimbabwe for successfully conducting their recent harmonised elections.

Held on August 23 and 24, 2023, these elections marked an important milestone for Zimbabwe’s democracy.

The South African Presidency released a statement on Monday applauding Zimbabwe’s efforts in organizing the elections despite the challenging economic environment and the burdensome sanctions that have affected the country.

President Ramaphosa acknowledged the resilience of the Zimbabwean people who continue to endure unjust hardships.

The statement also highlighted the recognition of the international community, with International Observers Missions such as the African Union (AU) and the South African Development Community (SEOM) commending the process.

Their preliminary pronouncements underscored the credibility and fairness of the elections, bolstering trust in the democratic system.

South Africa, as a neighboring country and a key regional player, has urged all political parties in Zimbabwe to work together in harmony, fostering peace and cooperating to achieve developmental progress and shared prosperity for the nation.

President Ramaphosa emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration to overcome the challenges facing Zimbabwe.
