President Cyril Ramaphosa
President Cyril Ramaphosa has lauded the remarkable success of the matric Class of 2023, attributing it to the determination and ambition of learners and a nation that values its youth.
The President extended his warm congratulations to the matriculants and their support system, including educators, parents, school governing bodies, and health care providers, for guiding the learners through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic in earlier grades.
The overall pass rate for the 2023 National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams reached an unprecedented 82.9%, marking a significant increase from 2022’s 80.1% and 2021’s 76.4%.
This improvement, at 2.8% from 2022 and 6.5% from 2021, translates to 572,983 candidates passing the 2023 NSC exams, the highest in the history of the NSC.
Notably, the Class of 2023 also achieved the highest number of Bachelor passes and passes with distinction in the history of NSC exams.
In light of these achievements, President Ramaphosa emphasized the importance of investing in education as a means of propelling the country forward. He praised the Class of 2023 for demonstrating resilience and dedication to learning, underscoring the nation’s commitment to nurturing its young people.
Furthermore, President Ramaphosa emphasized that the matric results serve as a clear indicator of the nation’s development over 30 years of freedom and democracy and urged for continued efforts towards even greater achievements across all sectors.
