President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to receive the highly anticipated results of South Africa's Census 2022 from Statistics South Africa (Stats SA). The Statistician-General, Risenga Maluleke, will officially hand over the report to the President and announce the population and housing count results at the Union Buildings in Pretoria on Tuesday. Census 2022 is the fourth population and housing count conducted in post-apartheid South Africa. The previous censuses were conducted in 1996, 2001, and 2011. This latest census, conducted in February 2022, aims to provide comprehensive data on population size, demographic trends, and other service delivery-related information. To align with international practices, Stats SA will release the census data in phases. The first phase of the Census 2022 launch will cover reports and indicators at the national, provincial, district, and local municipality levels. This approach will allow for a more detailed analysis and understanding of the data at various levels of governance. The importance of census data cannot be understated. It serves as a vital data source for government and various sectors of society to inform planning and evidence-based decision making. The census population count provides valuable insights into the demographic, economic, and social makeup of the country. The findings from censuses also play a crucial role in tracking the effectiveness of service delivery programs over time. By receiving the Census 2022 national results, President Ramaphosa will have access to invaluable information that will contribute to informed policy formulation and resource allocation. The data will enable the government to identify areas that require targeted interventions and address the needs of specific communities.
