President Cyril Ramaphosa has recently made a determination to increase the salaries of all public office bearers by three percent, effective from 01 April 2022.

This decision comes after careful consideration of the recommendations made by the Independent Commission for the Remuneration of Public Office Bearers (the Commission), which were submitted to the President on 17 April 2023.

The Commission had recommended a 3.8% salary increment for all public office bearers, including members of the Independent Constitutional Institutions, Judges, Magistrates, and Traditional Leaders, for the financial year 2022/2023.

However, due to the severe economic challenges currently faced by the country, the President decided to implement a three percent increase instead.

In accordance with the relevant statutory requirements, the President has submitted a notice to Parliament for approval before the publication of the salary increase concerning judges and magistrates.

President Ramaphosa expressed his gratitude to the Independent Commission for their recommendations. This decision to increase the salaries of public office bearers reflects the President’s commitment to recognizing and rewarding their work and dedication in serving the country.
