President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to embark on a working visit today to the Republic of Angola to engage in high-level discussions with President João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço. Accompanying President Ramaphosa on this important trip are Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Ronald Lamola and Defence Minister Angie Motshekga.
In a statement released by the Presidency on Wednesday, it was highlighted that “the two Heads of State will use the occasion of the working visit to reflect on the bilateral relationship between the two countries, who share very deep historical ties that are rooted in the liberation struggle against colonialism and apartheid.”
Strengthening Bilateral Relations
This visit underscores the strong and historical bond between South Africa and Angola. The leaders will delve into various areas of mutual interest and explore opportunities to enhance cooperation. The discussions are expected to cover a broad range of topics, including economic collaboration, security, and development initiatives.
Regional and Continental Focus
In addition to bilateral matters, President Ramaphosa and President Lourenço will share perspectives on regional issues. A significant part of their conversation will centre on the situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The leaders aim to discuss regional and continental efforts to resolve ongoing conflicts that are affecting peace and stability in Africa.

“The two Heads of State will also share perspectives on issues of regional mutual interest, including the situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and on regional and continental efforts aimed at resolving the conflicts that are plaguing the continent,” the Presidency’s statement read.
