President Cyril Ramaphosa

President Cyril Ramaphosa has requested the National Assembly Speaker, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, and the National Council of Provinces Chairperson, Amos Masondo, to convene a Joint Sitting of the two Houses for the State of the Nation Address (SONA) on 8 February 2024. The SONA marks the official start of the parliamentary programme for the year ahead, where the President outlines government’s key policy objectives and deliverables for the year.

The President also uses the SONA to highlight achievements, address challenges, and outline interventions that the government will undertake to unlock development interventions for the coming financial year. This important event offers insight into the direction and focus of the government for the upcoming year.

The 2024 SONA is scheduled to begin at 7pm.
