Bloemfontein – The Free State Premier Sisi Ntombela has suspended the Head of Department (HOD) of Police, Roads and Transport, Sipho Mtakati for allegedly failing to ensure that road infrastructure projects are properly managed.
“I have recently received reports on the dire impacts which the collapsing of the 5 major road infrastructure projects is causing,” said Premier Ntombela.
According to Ntombela, Mtakati as the HOD is ultimately responsible to ensure that, once Contractor have been appointed to repair an identified road, which poses a danger to the public traveling on it, that the is project is properly managed to its logical conclusion.
Mtakati is also expected to ensure that government funds are appropriately spent. Ntombela is accusing Mtakati of failing to ensure that at least 5 major road infrastructure projects are properly managed.
The HOD, Mtakati is not expected to be at work while the investigations, regarding the allegations linked to him, are taking place.
“I am of the view that this should be properly investigated and I firmly believe that your presence at the workplace may jeopardize this investigation,” said Premier Ntombela.
Meanwhile, Mtakati is expected to handover his office keys to the Director of Security & Integrity Management in the office of the premier, Mr S. Diseko.
Meanwhile, Ntombela has appointed M. S. Tlali to act as the HOD for Police, Roads and Transport from 19th May 2021 for a period of 60 days.
