The Premier of the Free State, Sefora Ntombela today received donations to aid Jagersfontein residents affected by the devastating mine dam burst on Sunday.

The donations, in the form of blankets and food parcels, were donated by the Office of the Chinese Consul – General. Mr. Yang Huibo led the delegation which met Premier Ntombela and the Director General of the Free State Provincial Government Kopung Ralikontsane.

The Premier said she was deeply touched by the gesture from the delegation, and added that the Chinese people have once again demonstrated that they are friends of South Africa.

“The tragic events which took place in Jagersfontein caught us all unprepared. Our people suffered great losses and one, Ntate Mosweu, even sadly lost his life due to this tragedy.

We are therefore humbled and appreciative by the kind gesture from our friends from the People’s Republic of China. This is a clear demonstration of the genuine friendship we enjoy with them and long may it continue. I am certain that the people of Jagersfontein will receive these gifts with warmth,” Premier Ntombela said.

Mr.Huibo said he was deeply touched by the events that unfolded in Jagersfontein and that spurred them into action to lend a helping hand.

Issued by the Free State Provincial Government
