To ensure smooth transportation for thousands of fans attending the highly anticipated MTN8 Final between Orlando Pirates and Stellenbosch FC, the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) has announced additional train services. The match, set to take place on 5 October 2024 at Durban’s iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium, promises to draw large crowds, and PRASA is stepping up to ease traffic congestion and enhance the overall fan experience.
By offering convenient train services from various regional stations, PRASA aims to reduce the need for private vehicles and promote public transport usage. This move aligns with the agency’s goal of providing safe, reliable, and accessible transportation for all.
PRASA’s Comprehensive Plan for Match Day
PRASA’s dedicated train services will operate from key regional hubs, connecting fans directly to Durban Station, where they will then transfer to Moses Mabhida Station. The shuttle service between Durban Station and Moses Mabhida will run every 15 minutes from 13:00 to 17:00, ensuring a smooth flow of passengers to the stadium before the match kicks off. After the game, the return service will operate from 20:15 to 22:00 to facilitate the journey home.
Special Train Services and Timetable:
In addition to the regular Saturday schedule, PRASA has introduced a series of special trains that will cater specifically to football fans. These trains will operate from various regions, ensuring fans have a reliable transport option both before and after the MTN8 Final. Below is a detailed breakdown of the special services:
Umlazi to Durban:
• T9219 departs from Umlazi Station at 13:27, heading directly to Durban.
• T9229 departs from Umlazi Station at 14:27, also direct to Durban.
• After the match, return services will operate:
• T3288 departs Moses Mabhida Station at 20:15, direct to Umlazi.
• T3296 departs Moses Mabhida Station at 21:00, direct to Umlazi.Winkelspruit to Durban:
• T0763 departs Winkelspruit Station at 14:01, direct to Durban.
• Return service:
• T3792 departs Moses Mabhida Station at 20:45, direct to Winkelspruit.
KwaMashu to Moses Mabhida:
• T9434 departs from KwaMashu Station at 15:22, direct to Moses Mabhida.
• Return service:
• T9495 departs Moses Mabhida Station at 21:15, direct to KwaMashu.Pinetown to Durban:
• T0063 departs Pinetown Station at 14:13, connecting to Rossburgh, where passengers can transfer to the Durban-bound train T9229 at 15:19.
• Return service:
• T3792 departs Moses Mabhida at 20:45, connecting at Rossburgh to Pinetown-bound T3094 at 21:16.Crossmoor to Durban:
