Expired SASSA gold cards validity extended to end of the year

Postbank has announced that the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) gold cards will continue to be valid beyond December 2023, allowing social grant beneficiaries to use their cards as normal.

For years, the use of SASSA Gold Cards has been instrumental in empowering marginalized populations and providing easier access to funds, especially in rural areas with limited banking infrastructure. The decision to extend the validity of these cards is a testament to Postbank’s commitment to delivering convenient and affordable services to the disadvantaged.

Dr. Bongani Diako, the spokesperson for Postbank, emphasized that beneficiaries should not be swayed by misleading information or unscrupulous retailers who may try to convince them to switch to other card products. Postbank is the only authorized bank for replacing SASSA Gold Cards, and beneficiaries should report any retailer or shop that attempts to coerce them into making purchases prior to receiving their grants.

The benefits of the SASSA Gold Card are numerous. It can be used to withdraw grants from a wide network of ATMs, including those of any bank and various retailers such as Boxer, Pick n Pay, Shoprite, Usave, Spar, and Shoprite. This extensive availability of channels reduces the necessity for beneficiaries to endure long queues at Post Offices or cash pay points.

Moreover, SASSA Gold Card holders enjoy several transaction benefits, including free withdrawals at retail shops, free 3-month statements, and balance inquiries. These features not only empower beneficiaries by providing access to their full grant amount but also save them from unnecessary transaction costs.
