Popular Musician Shebeshxt
Polokwane – Popular Limpopo artist Shebeshxt was arrested on Wednesday morning in connection with a violent road rage incident. The 30-year-old musician, whose real name is Lehlogonolo Katlego Chauke, faces two counts of attempted murder after allegedly firing shots at another motorist last month. Police confirmed the arrest took place during a targeted operation in the upscale suburb of Bendor, outside Polokwane, highlighting their commitment to holding everyone accountable, no matter their fame.
Details of the Road Rage Shooting Emerge
The incident unfolded in the early hours of Sunday, 19 October 2025, along Witklip Street in Ladanna, a suburb just outside Polokwane. According to police reports, Shebeshxt became embroiled in a heated confrontation with another driver at a petrol station. Eyewitnesses described how the argument escalated quickly, leading the musician to pull out a firearm and fire several shots at the other vehicle.
The victim, a 34-year-old man sometimes referred to as Petrus, was driving with friends to buy food when they were confronted by a blue Volkswagen Golf allegedly driven by Shebeshxt. One of the bullets struck the victim in the cheek, causing serious injuries. He was rushed to a local provincial hospital where he received urgent medical care and continues to recover. The case was first reported at Westernburg SAPS before being handed over to the Provincial Investigation Unit for a deeper probe.
Investigators moved swiftly, securing a warrant of arrest on Tuesday, 11 November 2025. The following day, a joint team from the Provincial Investigation Unit and the Provincial Tracking Team swooped in on Shebeshxt’s location in Bendor around 09:30. During the operation, authorities seized several of his vehicles for forensic examination, aiming to gather more evidence on the shooting and any related activities.
Police Commend Swift Action and Stress Equality Under the Law
Limpopo Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe praised the teams involved for their thorough and rapid response. “We are taking this matter very seriously, and a dedicated team was appointed to ensure that no stone is left unturned,” she said. “The South African Police Service reiterates that no one is above the law, regardless of their social standing.”
Spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba provided further details on the arrest. “The arrest was executed through a joint operation between the Provincial Investigation Unit and the Provincial Tracking Team following the issuance of a warrant of arrest linked to a case of two counts of attempted murder registered at Westernburg SAPS,” he explained. Ledwaba urged the public to avoid speculation, noting that investigations are ongoing and could uncover more charges, including possible unlawful possession of a firearm.
Court Appearance Set Amid Fan Concerns
Shebeshxt is expected to make his first appearance in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 13 November 2025. The charges stem directly from the October shooting, but sources indicate the case might expand based on forensic findings from the seized vehicles. Fans and industry insiders are worried about the impact on his career, with over 50 gigs lined up for December potentially at risk if he remains in custody.
The musician has not yet commented publicly on the allegations, leaving many of his supporters in limbo. Social media has been abuzz with reactions, from shock to calls for justice, as the story unfolds.
Who is Shebeshxt? A Rise Marred by Controversy
Born Lehlogonolo Katlego Chauke, Shebeshxt has become a household name in South Africa, especially in Limpopo, through his unique style in the Lekompo genre. This emerging subgenre blends traditional Limpopo sounds with modern house music elements, creating upbeat tracks that resonate with fans across the country. Hits like “Ambulance” and “Ke ‘Di Shxt Malume’” have propelled him to stardom, earning him a dedicated following for his raw energy and relatable lyrics.
However, his journey from the streets to the stage has been anything but smooth. Often described as a “gangster turned musician,” Shebeshxt has openly discussed his troubled past in interviews and podcasts. He has shared stories of spending time in jail, revealing real-life prison experiences that shaped his tough persona. In one candid session, he admitted to a criminal history that included run-ins with the law before his music career took off.
Controversies have followed him closely. In 2022, he faced charges of attempted murder after allegedly stabbing a man during a public altercation in Lebowakgomo, Limpopo. The following year, in 2023, he was arrested for assault, attempted murder, and malicious damage to property after reportedly firing shots at a family home – though the firearm-related charges were later dropped. Videos have circulated showing him in heated moments, such as brandishing a large knife during an argument or assaulting fans at events.
More recently, in 2025, Shebeshxt sparked outrage by confessing to using crystal meth, raising concerns about his well-being and influence on young fans. He also faced legal troubles abroad, spending time in jail in a neighbouring country for breaching a performance contract in December 2023.
Personal Tragedy Adds to Public Scrutiny
Amid these professional highs and lows, Shebeshxt has endured profound personal loss. Last year, on 9 June 2024, his eight-year-old daughter, Onthatile Gladys Chuene, tragically died in a car accident while they were en route to a performance at the ANC Siyanqoba Rally celebration concert in Lebowakgomo. The crash left Shebeshxt seriously injured and drew widespread sympathy, even as it highlighted his often reckless lifestyle.
Critics argue that repeated incidents, including public displays of aggression like waving guns or getting into fights, paint a picture of someone struggling to leave his past behind. Fans, however, defend him as a product of his environment, appreciating his authenticity in a music industry full of polished images.
