Mandeni, KwaZulu-Natal – Police in Mandeni have swiftly apprehended two suspects, aged 27 and 37, following a brutal shooting that left two people dead and one seriously injured in the eMakhwanini area of the Mangethe township. The tragic incident occurred on Monday afternoon, when a 62-year-old man and his 43-year-old daughter were fatally shot at their family homestead. The man’s 57-year-old wife was also shot and rushed to the hospital, where she remains in critical condition.

The KwaZulu-Natal South African Police Service (SAPS) responded promptly to the scene after receiving reports of the shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered the two victims’ bodies and began an investigation, quickly identifying the suspects. According to police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda, the motive behind the attack stems from a dispute involving the deceased’s son, who the suspects accused of having an affair with one of their girlfriends.

A police operation was launched immediately, and just after midnight on Tuesday, police raided a residence in the Majuba area of Mandeni. Both suspects were arrested at the premises, where officers also recovered two illegal firearms. One firearm was a homemade gun, while the other had its serial number filed off, rendering it untraceable.

Before the attack, the suspects had reportedly kidnapped another individual in eMakhwanini. This man was dragged into the nearby bushes, tied to a tree, and gagged by the suspects. They allegedly informed the man that they were heading to kill people at a specific homestead and would return to kill him afterward. The kidnapped victim managed to escape and immediately reported the incident to the police.

The suspects are now facing multiple charges, including double murder, attempted murder, and illegal possession of firearms. They are expected to appear before the Nyoni Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

This shocking incident has sparked outrage in the community, with local residents expressing their concerns about the growing levels of violence in the area. Police have commended the swift response of the investigating team, whose efforts led to the prompt arrest of the suspects and recovery of the firearms.

The SAPS continues to urge members of the public to come forward with any information that could assist in further investigations, particularly regarding the whereabouts of the deceased’s son, who is believed to have been the intended target of the attack. Investigations are ongoing, with authorities also probing any additional crimes that the suspects may have been involved in prior to this tragic event.
