BY TSHEDISO THINANE
My fellow Free Staters, my name is Tshediso Thinane. I’m an entrepreneur and small business lobbyst, all my youth I have dedicated my life lobbying for economic transformation and inclusive growth as well economic Development in the Free State.
I served in many structures such as National African Federated Chamber of Commerce (NAFCOC Youth Chamber), Youth Chamber of Commerce and Industry South Africa (YCCISA) and many other business lobby groups. At the moment I’m serving as Chief Executive Officer of Smart Start Up Foundation NPC.
I spent many years lobbying and cultivated a lot of enemies in the process who thought I was lobbying for my own stomach when I was plainly worried about the state of affairs in the Free State.
Colleagues, let me tell you that I served in high places in the Free State Provincial Government with regards to the economy and I can tell you right now for free that Free State cannot afford what is happening in Gauteng and KZN.
Our economy is literally below zero in in terms of growth (year in year) in the Free State with more than 40% unemployment mainstream and more than 78% youth unemployment. If we ever get an edge to join what is happening in Gauteng and KZN then we must know that post this phenomena, our economy will never ever recover at least in 20 years to come.
Free State is one of the South African provinces with a massive economic and social inequalities where so called white businesses such as Shoprite Checkers, Harmony Mines and many Agri businesses continues to dominate the market share and stake more than R 1 billion monthly while at the same time black businesses remain in the sideline.
I want to share with you that what is happening in Gauteng and KZN indeed is affecting white businesses badly, but not as much as it will affect black businesses and prospective job seekers as our white counter parts own economic value chains and can afford insurance that will assist them to recover.
Stay away from that and rather join Government to come up with ideas on how we can revive the economy post COVID 19, that has pushed our provincial economy that was already in ICU due to technical rescission to the corner.
We don’t need what is happening in Gauteng and KZN here Colleagues unless we want to commit economic suicide. I don’t want to be political and go to the baseless reasons why people claim that what is happening in those 2 provinces can be attributed to which is nonesense of the highest form.
I plea with our government to speak to our people and discourage those who might be Harbouring desires to join replicate what is happening in Gauteng and KZN here.
