The South African opposition political party, Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) says that the Mamelodi Sundowns supporters have displayed the highest form of self-hate after they were seen in a video footage insulting Al Ahly Coach Pitso Mosimane.

South African head coach Pitso Mosimane has officially stepped down from his position as Al Ahly head coach after nearly two years in charge.

Mosimane had joined Al Ahly back in 2020, and his stint with the Reds saw massive success on both continental and international levels.

During his 21 months in charge, Mosimane had led the Reds to three CAF Champions League finals, of which he won two.

He had also led the team to two consecutive FIFA Club World Cup bronze medals, two CAF Super Cup victories, in addition to an Egypt Cup and an Egyptian Super Cup coronations.

Overall, Pitso led the Red Devils to 65 victories, 22 draws, and only 10 defeats.

Despite all that, the official Al Ahly social media platforms announced that the head coach made the decision to step down from his position.

The decision to step down came after heavy criticism towards the South African, especially after losing the 2022 CAF Champions League final to Wydad.

“Al Ahly and Mosimane reached an agreement to part ways,” the statement said.

“Mahmoud El-Khatib, the club’s president, held a meeting with Yassin Mansour, the chairman of Al Ahly football company, Hossam Ghaly, the club’s board member, and the planning committee members, to discuss Mosimane’s future with the club.

“During the meeting, They all decided that he should continue his mission with Al Ahly as a result of the achievements he managed to accomplish during the previous period.

“However, during the meeting that was previously held, Mosimane requested to leave and that he is satisfied with the achievements he managed to accomplish with the club.

“Later on, Mosimane’s decision was discussed and it was decided to approve his request to part ways with the club and to thank him for the achievements that he accomplished with the club.”

With Mosimane stepping down, Al Ahly announced that previous assistant manager Samy Komsan will take charge of the club as interim manager.
