Dr. Phophi Ramathuba has become the first woman elected as the province’s Premier. Making her debut at the Provincial Headquarters in Polokwane, Premier Ramathuba announced the new Members of the Executive Council (MECs) on Tuesday, solidifying her commitment to inclusivity and accessible quality basic services.

Emphasis on Youth Employment and Gender Equality
Premier Ramathuba underscored her administration’s focus on transforming Limpopo into an employment hub particularly for the youth. She emphasised that gender disparity and ethical leadership were key considerations in the selection process for her executive team.
“The new MECs have been tasked with ensuring that Limpopo becomes an employment hub for young people,” said Ramathuba. “We have taken a deliberate stance to address gender disparity, ensuring that our leadership is diverse and ethically sound.”
The New Members of the Executive Council
Here are the newly appointed MECs:
- Department of Education: Ms Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya
- Department of Health: Ms Mashego Dieketseng Masesi
- Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements, and Traditional Affairs: Mr Basikopo Rogers Makamu
- Department of Social Development: Ms Fulufhelo Florence Radzilani
- Department of Sport, Arts and Culture: Mr Maseko Funani Jerry
- Limpopo Provincial Treasury: Mr Mahoai Kgabo Elias
- Department of Environment and Tourism: Mr Titteree Baldwin Matibe
- Department of Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure: Mr Rachoene Sebataolo Ernest
- Department of Agriculture and Rural Development: Ms Kekana Nakedi Grace
- Department of Transport and Community Safety: Ms Mathye Susani Violet
Steering Limpopo Towards Progress
Ramathuba was elected during the seventh sitting of the Limpopo Legislature in Lebowakgomo on Friday, 14 June. She takes over from Chupu Stanley Mathabatha, who was commended for guiding the province through two challenging administration terms.
In her acceptance speech, Ramathuba expressed humility and gratitude for the opportunity to lead “this great province.” She also reaffirmed her commitment to ensuring access to quality basic services for all citizens and called on the new Executives to perform their roles with diligence.

A Call to Action for Legislators
“I call upon the members of this Legislature to uphold their oversight role with diligence and dedication, ensuring that the administration of Limpopo serves the best interests of all its citizens,” said Ramathuba.
Acknowledging Mathabatha’s exemplary leadership, she praised his stewardship for navigating Limpopo through the challenges of the past two administrations.
