Pearl Thusi Responds to Backlash Over Zimbabwe Visit: “It Was Strictly for Tourism, Not Politics”

VIDEO | South African media personality Pearl Thusi found herself amidst a social media storm recently after her visit to Zimbabwe was misconstrued as a political endorsement.

Together with fellow media personalities Sonia Mbele and Sello Maake kaNcube, Thusi embarked on a tour of Zimbabwe ahead of the country’s upcoming national elections. However, the trio faced severe criticism and were accused of endorsing President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF party.

In response to the backlash, Thusi took to Instagram to set the record straight. She firmly stated that her visit to Zimbabwe was solely for tourism purposes, rather than any political agenda. In fact, her intention was to showcase the beauty of the country, challenge existing narratives, and encourage tourists to visit and support Zimbabwe.

“The reason I came to Zim was for tourism, to showcase Zimbabwe to the entire world, to show a different narrative of Zimbabwe, to show there’s beauty, and invite people to spend money in Zimbabwe,” clarified Thusi during her live Instagram session.
