Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba, who was initially handed a four-year ban for a doping violation, has successfully appealed his case, leading to the reduction of his suspension to 18 months. The decision was confirmed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), giving Pogba the opportunity to return to the pitch in March 2025.

The 31-year-old Frenchman, who tested positive for dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) in August 2023, was provisionally suspended in September 2023. Pogba was left devastated by the initial ruling, expressing that he was “shocked and heartbroken” at the prospect of not playing football until 2027. His legal team challenged the decision, and CAS ruled in his favour after a thorough review, reducing the ban and setting aside a substantial fine.

Pogba will be able to resume training with Juventus from January 2025. Juventus, which had considered terminating his contract during the investigation, has retained the midfielder, and he remains a key part of the club’s plans under his current contract, which runs until June 2026.

This decision marks a significant boost for Pogba’s career, which has faced multiple challenges, including injuries and limited playing time since his return to Juventus in 2022. His reduction in suspension has reignited hopes for a successful comeback, both for him and the Serie A club, as they look forward to his return in the latter half of the 2024-2025 season.

Pogba remains adamant about his innocence, stating that he had never knowingly taken performance-enhancing substances and expressing his desire to reveal more about the case once legal restrictions are lifted .

As he prepares for his return, football fans and pundits alike are eager to see if Pogba can reclaim his top form and contribute to Juventus’ success once more.
