Relebohile Mofokeng
By Sello Masilo
Orlando Pirates have reportedly turned down a substantial R25.8 million bid from Egyptian football giants Zamalek SC for their emerging star, Relebohile Mofokeng. The offer was submitted on 8 February 2025, coinciding with the closing day of the Egyptian Premier League transfer window. The Buccaneers, however, are resolute in retaining Mofokeng, especially during the mid-season, as they consider him integral to their ongoing campaigns.
Zamalek’s Pursuit of Mofokeng
Zamalek SC, renowned for their dominance in African club football, identified the 20-year-old Mofokeng as a prime target to bolster their squad for the latter half of the season. Recognizing his versatility and playmaking prowess, they believed Mofokeng could significantly enhance their prospects in both domestic and continental competitions. Their formal proposal, amounting to R25.8 million, underscored their commitment to securing his services.
Orlando Pirates’ Firm Stance
Despite the lucrative nature of the offer, Orlando Pirates swiftly declined the bid. The club’s management emphasized Mofokeng’s indispensable role in their quest for the Betway Premiership title and success in the CAF Champions League. Insiders suggest that the Pirates have set a valuation closer to R37 million for the young talent, reflecting their belief in his exceptional potential and importance to the team’s objectives.
Mofokeng’s Rising Star
This season, Relebohile Mofokeng has been a standout performer for the Buccaneers. His impressive tally of eight goals and eleven assists across all competitions has not only endeared him to the Pirates’ faithful but also attracted attention from top clubs both within Africa and internationally. His ability to influence the game from various positions makes him a valuable asset, and the Pirates are keen to nurture his development further.
