Johannesburg – Sunday evening was a night of celebration and recognition at the prestigious 2023/24 PSL Awards. Hosted in a glitzy ceremony, the standout performers of the season were honoured for their exceptional contributions to South African football.
Patrick Maswanganyi: A Season to Remember
Orlando Pirates’ midfielder, Patrick Maswanganyi, stole the spotlight with his remarkable achievements. The midfielder bagged three significant accolades: “DStv Premiership Players’ Player of the Season”, “DStv Premiership Midfielder of the Season”, and “Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament”. Maswanganyi’s stellar performances on the pitch have not only earned him admiration from fans but also respect from his peers and coaches alike.
Ronwen Williams: The Guardian of the Season
Mamelodi Sundowns’ goalkeeper, Ronwen Williams, was another big winner of the night. Williams took home the prestigious “PSL Footballer of the Season” award and was named the “DStv Premiership Goalkeeper of the Season”. His consistent and commanding presence between the sticks has been instrumental in Sundowns’ successful campaign.

The future looks bright for Orlando Pirates, with young talent Relebohile Mofokeng making waves. Mofokeng clinched the “DStv Premiership Young Player of the Season” and “Nedbank Cup Most Promising Player of the Tournament” awards. His performances have announced him as one to watch in the coming seasons.
Sundowns’ Dominance in Coaching and Defense
Mamelodi Sundowns’ tactical mastermind, Rhulani Mokwena, was honoured as the “DStv Premiership Coach of the Season”. Meanwhile, the resilient Grant Kekana was recognised as the “Defender of the Season”, solidifying Sundowns’ dominance in both strategic planning and defensive prowess.
Goal-Scoring Brilliance
Orlando Pirates’ sharp shooter, Tshegofatso Mabasa, won the “DStv Premiership Top Goal Scorer” award, further establishing his reputation as a lethal finisher. His teammate, Thabiso Lebitso, wowed fans with his spectacular goal, earning the “Goal of the Season” accolade.
