By Thys Khiba – Gauteng South African Police Service (SAPS) officials have apprehended three suspects, aged between 17 and 21, who are believed to be part of the gangs that are terrorizing the community of Westbury.
“It is alleged that six men suspected to be members of rival gangs were involved in a shootout in Westbury on Monday the 28 November 2022 at approximately 12:15, when a 54-year-old woman was hit by a stray bullet as she was walking out of her house.
The victim was rushed to the local medical care center where she is in stable condition,” said police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo.

Masondo confirmed officials responded swiftly to the shooting incident and followed up on leads that resulted in the arrest of three of the suspects.
A case of attempted murder has been opened.
Police are still searching for the other suspects and firearms used.
The arrested suspects are expected to appear before the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court in due course.
