One Arrest in possession of unlicensed firearm at Harrismith roadblock

Harrismith- A suspect has being charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition after he was arrested being found with a firearm at a roadblock on the N3 near Harrismith.

“On Tuesday, 20 July 2021 at approximately 16:45 Capt Wasmuth of Welkom K9 Unit was on duty at the roadblock on the N3 road.  He allegedly stopped a white Toyota Corolla with GP registration number with three occupants”, said Brigadier Motantsi Makhele in a police statement.

Whilst searching one of the suspects, a 9mm pistol which serial number was filed off was found on the suspect.

He was arrested for illegal possession of firearm and ammunition and as undocumented persons.

Brigadier Makhele says the suspect is expected to appear before Harrismith Magistrates’ Court on 22 July 2021 on charges of unlicensed firearm and ammunition and being illegal immigrant
