In an exclusive interview with Central News on Thursday, Xiluva’s National Leader Bongani Baloyi addressed the Hammanskraal Water Crisis and the ongoing SIU investigation into the R295 million contract awarded to businessman Edwin Sodi’s company for the Rooiwal Wastewater Treatment Works project in the Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality.

Baloyi expressed his concern over the lack of action and support from the government in resolving the water crisis in Hammanskraal.

He revealed that he had personally submitted the complaint when he was leading ActionSA in Gauteng and highlighted the devastating impact it was having on the community, particularly on black people.

According to Baloyi, the apparent indifference towards the situation by the government reflects a deep-seated issue in society, where black lives are undervalued and treated as disposable.

He lamented the fact that if a similar incident had occurred in a more affluent area such as Centurion, immediate action would have been taken to rectify the problem.

“The sad thing about our current state is that black lives are cheap”

“If such a thing happened in Centurion or Water There, it wouldn’t have taken long”

Baloyi further criticized the slow response from government in addressing the issue, leaving the people of Hammanskraal to suffer without access to clean and safe drinking water. He emphasized that some residents cannot even drink the water coming from their taps.
